This track is the mp3 demo mix of the music which I wrote and mixed in Bamako in 2008. The original plan was to remix and polish up the tracks in 2020 for the 2021 release but all the audio files and midi information had been destroyed through bad disk drives so this mp3 is all that remained. With the talents of Mixing Engineer Roy Hendrickson and Mastering Engineer Adam Ayan I was so happy to hear the quality they could bring to my humble recording.

This track was inspired by a trip I took across Mali in the middle of a 3-week stay in the country. I took a bus northeast to go to the Dogon region where people communicate with each other in song. I was energized and enthralled by the vision of Baobab trees that we drove past on our way for a very long drive. Happy. In the town of Segou there is a main bus terminal and our bus had a 1/2 layover. The market there was a bustling throng of activity everywhere you looked. And in the middle of that commotion there were children holding buckets, cups, whatever they could for leftover food from anyone who had some to throw out. Young children in groups. Not in school but at the bus station looking for food. It just stopped me from thinking about anything else. I engaged with a young boy in a blue jacket when I gave him the only food I had which was a couple of cookies. It was short and bittersweet but I've never forgotten him.

I think of the children and I wonder how they have turned out.

The song is basically two halves. Before the stop. After the stop.
